What is ReferNet?

ReferNet – The European network of reference and expertise for vocational education and training is a structured, decentralised, networked system of collecting, reporting and disseminating information related to vocational education and training. The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) set up this network to meet the growing demand for comparable information on Member States’ VET systems, developments and policies.

The Hungarian coordinator of ReferNet is the Observatory for Educational Development.

Structure of ReferNet – a representative consortium

ReferNet comprises a national consortium in each Member State, made up of representatives of the most prominent institutions – public authorities, social partners and R&D institutions – involved in VET. Each consortium is led by a national coordinator responsible for the consortium and ensuring the networks’ activities are performed satisfactorily.

The network brings together organisations with common interests in developing vocational education and training and learning. It encourages common exchanges of information and creation of partnerships. It provides members of the consortium with an opportunity to broaden their contacts with other international organisations within and outside Europe.

Currently the Hungarian National ReferNet Consortium involves 23 members and is coordinated by the Observatory for Educational Development operating as part of the Corvinus University of Budapest, Institute of Behavioural Sciences and Communication Theory. The members of the consortium are as follows:

Activities of ReferNet

The network’s activities fall into three categories:

  • Documentation and dissemination

Collecting and disseminating information, updating bibliographical databases, providing information services and supporting promotional activities, such as conferences and seminars.

  • Collecting and analysing information

Providing up-to-date information on vocational education and training systems, as well as analyses of pertinent themes.

  • Research

Through common exchanges, the network provides greater transparency, synergy and dissemination of national and European vocational education and training research.

More information about these activities is available on the homepage of ReferNet Hungary.
